Laura was a well loved member of the Mackay Triathlon Club – she had a great passion for her sport and life in general and always took the time to support and encourage the achievements of others. Whilst she had great success in her time with the Tri Club and at Mackay Road runners, Laura was always humble and never boastful. She loved the ‘hard stuff’’- in fact she was training for her first Ironman Triathlon event when she had her tragic accident at the age of 26. Her death touched all of us deeply.
Every year the club holds Laura’s Tri to celebrate the life and spirit of Laura. Laura’s parents and family fly up from NSW to participate in this event and to pass on the trophy to the female winner of the race. They also contribute financially to holding this event and to the King and Queen of the Mountain running race. The tri club always incorporates an extra hard bit (eg hill ) into Laura’s Tri as a reminder of the challenges that Laura loved.
