Sarina Beach Triathlon

Located on the Esplanade, next to the Sarina Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, the Sarina Beach Triathlon is always a popular event on the Mackay Triathlon Club calendar.  Seasoned triathletes, weekend warriors and new-comers to the sport from around the region travel for this relaxed yet exciting event.

This triathlon is run over two distances.  The shorter ‘Enticer’ distance involves a 375m swim, 10km cycle & 2.5km run.  The longer ‘Sprint’ distance involves a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run. There is also a Mini Kids Distance of 100m swim, 3km cycle and 500m run so be sure to bring the kids.

And if completing a triathlon is not challenging enough, for the longer ‘Sprint Distance’ athletes, after tackling the 750m open water swim, 20km undulating cycle, the final blow comes from the notorious Captain Blackwood Drive hill within the final 2 kilometers of the run.  However, be sure to take in the incredible view before heading back down towards transition.

Luckily enough, the shorter ‘Enticer Distance’ competitors can take it a bit easier on the run, with a flat course around the streets of Sarina Beach, before finishing at the Surf Lifesaving Club, where a cold drink and a catch up with fellow competitors can be had in the relaxed family atmosphere.

As this course is quite technical with many turns, please become familiar with the course maps situated under ‘Course Info’ on our website.  For further information about the event, or if you are able to help volunteer, please email mackaytri@gmail.com. We appreciate as much help as possible with this event.
