Weekly Club Training Sessions
Mackay Triathlon Club offers a range of structured training opportunities to help you stay active, improve your skills, and connect with our supportive community.
All sessions are free for current MTC members & just $5.00 for non members. Pool Hire Fees are additional for sessions held in Pools
We focus on Skill development and training structured in blocks designed to suit our Race calendar and a couple of other events such as Cairns 70.3.
This means if you are thinking about a particular Local race on our Club calendar, we more than likely will have a 6-8 week block of training specifically for that race!

WOMENS ONLY SQUADS JAN/FEB & SEPT/OCT
In Addition to regular weekly training, we also have 2 x 6 week women’s only Squads every year, 1 in Jan/Feb, the other in Sept/Oct-Check out the Womens only Page for EOI and FAQ’s on these 2 specific squads.
CARINS 70.3 SQUAD– MARCH to JUNE
We always have a large group attending Cairns 70.3 every year, and in March (After the Womens only Squad) we start 70.3 Squad Training in unison with regular weekly training designed to get you ready for the 70.3 distance. So if this race in on your mind, drop us a line and we can discuss options to Join the Club and this specific training program. With longer rides, runs and Ocean swims, we can help you get there with a community of like minded people just having a crack.
๐ Swim Squads โ Mondays/Wednesdays/Saturdays (Jan-Nov)
Monday-Time: 5:30 PM at Superkids Aquatic on Paradise Street – $5.00 Pool Hire p/p + $5.00 for non Members
Start your week strong with a coached swim session focused on technique, endurance, and confidence in the water.
Wednesday-Time: 5:30 PM at MARC with Felicity from FJM Fitness – $15 with Discount to club Members-book online and pay on arrival
Learn to swim with the Guru, Felicity will take you though the skills to learn to swim for anyone starting out, she has years of learn to swim skills to let you make the most of your time in the pool with her
Saturday-Time: 2:00 PM (when advertised only) $5.00 Lane Hire Fees p\p for Members, $10.00 non Members
Pioneer Swim Centre – A longer 3km+ swim set for those targeting 70.3 or Ironman events – Whiteboard session
๐ Run Squad โ Tuesdays & Thursdays (Jan-Nov)
Time: 5:00PM – MEMBERS-FREE $5.00 for Non Members – See FB for Weekly locations
Whether you’re building speed or just love running with others, our run squads are perfect for runners of all levels. Sessions include intervals, technique, and endurance work.
๐ Run Squad โ SUNDAY LONG RUN
Time: Various depending on time of year – See FB for Weekly locations
This is an uncoached longer easy run session for more experienced runners to meet up and take the same course as the group, coffee and chats after!
We aim to set a course with various water supplies onroute so you dont have to carry as much with you
โ๏ธ Sunday Sessions โ Our Signature Social Training
MEMBERS-FREE – $5.00 For Non Members
Sunday is the heart of our club weekโa friendly, flexible training morning designed for all ages and abilities incorporating beginners Bike & Run sessions and depending on time of year, an ocean swim.
Whether youโre brand new to the sport or a long-time triathlete, our Sunday sessions are the perfect way to train, meet others, and build confidence.
APRIL to MAY – Eimeo Beach for Eimeo Triathlon
JUNE to NOVEMBER– Mackay Harbour Beach
DECEMBER to MARCH– STINGER SEASON! – Group long Run and Beginners Rides will be posted on FB each sunday at various starting location for our Summer Training offerings

Our sessions rotate depending on the season and upcoming events, but typically include a mix of:
- Group Rides โ Various pace groups, beginner-friendly, no one gets left behind. A great starting point if you’re new to bunch riding or cycling in general.
- Brick Sessions โ Practice those all-important transitions with back-to-back bike and run workouts, simulating real race conditions.
- Run Sessions โ From easy social jogs to interval work and technique drills.
- Swim Sessions (Seasonal) โ When conditions allow, we include open water swim training with focus on safety, sighting and confidence in ocean swimming.
๐ฌ First Timer?
No worries! These sessions are relaxed, supportive, and welcoming. Our coaches are experienced triathletes themselves and are always on hand to guide you through and help you get comfortable.
๐ซ Want to Ride With Us?
If you’re new to group riding, we recommend joining a few Sunday rides first to get used to the flow. Once you’re confident, youโll be invited to join our regular mid-week and Saturday group rides and longer sessions.
